About Colt Anaconda

The Colt’s Manufacturing Company developed the “Anaconda” in 1990. Colt became well known also for their tradition to name revolvers after snakes.

It is a double-action revolver produced by the Colt’s Manufacturing Company as a very late revolver introduced to the large-bore gun market.

The revolver features a full-length under-barrel ejection-rod lug, 6 rounds cylinder, chambered for the strong .44 Magnums and .45 ACP. The revolver was built on a heavier and new “AA” frame. It was available in several barrels such as 4”, 6” and 8”.

The “Anaconda” was always available only in the stainless steel frame.

Although original “Anaconda” revolvers were plagued with a poor accuracy, few design changes to the barrels corrected the problem and this revolver became one of the most accurate .44 Magnum revolvers in production. The “Anaconda” was originally developed for the sport and hunters use because of its dimensions.

Production of the “Anaconda” was stopped in 1999 and from that time this model was available only in limited production and made-to-orders. Until 2003, limited production was available from the Colt custom gun shop.

The “Anaconda” was originally chambered for .44 calibers and since 1993 also for .45 Colt cartridges. A design of the revolver is the result of a combination of King Cobra and Colt Python revolvers.

There was also “Ultimate stainless” finish available, with a highly polished mirror-like option available through the Colt Custom Shop. Some gun variants were factory tapped and drilled for a telescopic sight mounting, others featured recoil reducing Magna ported barrels.

The trigger action on “Anaconda” revolver is rated as a very high quality and together with a heavy-duty solid construction, and weight it helps to absorb recoil nicely, making it an ideal revolver relatively easy to shoot with heavy charge.
