This model is similar in function and dimensions to the Colt Lawman and Colt Trooper revolvers. The Python is well known with its typical design, so different to other revolvers. It contains a solid construction, typical ventilated rib, full barrel underlug, extra metal and adjustable sights. Since 1970s, every revolver has been boresighted with a laser at the factory.

The Python was also first revolver model that was mass-produced. Massive production of the “Python” was discontinued in 1999. From that time, the Colt Custom Gun Shops continued producing a limited number of this revolver model on special orders only until 2005, when this limited production was stopped completely.

The “Python” revolver was originally available in Royal Blue and Bright Nickel finishes. The revolver was available in several dimensions, with 2.5”, 3”, 4”, 6” and 8” barrels. The most popular model was 6” barrel one and hunters loved to use 8” barreled model. In 1980, the “Python Hunter” model was developed, with 8” barrel and 2X Leupold scope. It was the 1st “field-ready” model-hunting package manufactured by a major gun producer.
